The Newark Museum Internship Program is designed to provide interns with an overview of the Museum industry at large and the Newark Museum specifically, as well as the museum's partnership with the City of Newark. Museum internship opportunities are offered year-round in all of its major departments including Curatorial, Registrar, Education, Science, Marketing/Public Relations, Exhibition Design, Library and Information Technology. Interns work on an array of projects and depending on academic training, experience and stated interest, are assigned to a specific staff member, or in some cases, to a department at large. Applicants of all educational and career backgrounds are encouraged to apply.
The Newark Museum accepts applications for the program throughout the year. Candidates must submit an application by the deadlines listed below in order to be considered for the time frame indicated.
Support provided by the Paul S. Nadler Family Charitable Trust.
Internships during the Academic Year
Internships are available to students and recent college graduates throughout the academic year (January–April and September–December).
The Summer Internship Program
Each summer, a limited number of internships are awarded to students who have completed at least one year of college. In addition to working within a museum department, interns take part in an expanded orientation process, learning in-depth about museum careers, as well as other art, science and education opportunities at institutions in the city of Newark and throughout the state. The Program will take place June 16–August 8, 2014. Internships are usually four days per week and combine hands-on experience within a museum department with seminars and field trips. Summer internship materials must be received no later than April 1, 2014.
