The Library serves the professional staff of the Newark Museum by acquiring, organizing, and preserving secondary materials that meet their research needs. The Archives maintains records generated by the Museum that have either historical or referential value.

The Library acquires books, periodicals, video-recordings and other sources of information related to the Newark Museum’s permanent collections of art and science objects. These areas include American art and culture; the decorative arts; Asian art, including a special collection on Tibet; the arts of Africa, the Americas, and the Pacific; the Classical world; numismatics; the natural sciences and astronomy. It also holds an extensive selection of artist catalogs, vertical files on an array of topics and a collection of auction catalogs dating to the early 20th century.

The Library's on-line public access catalog is available through the
Newark Public Library's website. The Library reading room is open by appointment only, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday, 9 am to 5 pm. Contact William A. Peniston, Ph.D., Librarina and Archivist.
